NMP continues upgrade of seafarers
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte, March 18 (PIA) – In a bid to help Filipino seafarers’ employability, the National Maritime Polytechnic of the Philippines (NMP) located at Cabalawan in Tacloban City, continues the upgrading of Maritime Training Services.
During the NMP-Media Partnership Forum yesterday, NMP bared the agency’s major plans for 2016 which include, among others, the conduct of maritime training courses for Filipino seafarers, maritime instructors/trainers/assessors and other maritime allied personnel in accordance with national and international standards on Maritime Education and Training (MET).
Manuel C. Roldan, NMP regional director said that the agency targets to issue 10,000 certificates for 2016 and that 12 additional courses were submitted to MARINA for accreditation.
The additional courses are competency based which are mandatory courses to be achieved by seafarers by January, 2017. Seafarers who have not accomplished the required courses will be unable to board foreign ships.
The courses for accreditation are to be enforced by January, 2017.
